چکیده

the objective of the present study was to compare the efficacy of conventional and extendedintramammary (imm) therapy of persistent subclinical mastitis in lactating dairy cattle using nafcillinpenicillin-dihydrostreptomycin combination (npd). sixty-five dairy cows with 126 infected quarters were enrolled in the study. infected cows were allocated randomly to 1 of 3 different treatment regimens: (1) conventional group: npd administered imm 3 times at 24-h intervals (20 infected cows, 43 intramammaryinfections [imi]), (2) extended group: npd administered imm 6 times at 24-h intervals (23 cows, 43 imi),and (3) untreated control group (22 cows, 40 imi). the overall bacteriological cure (bc) rates for subclinicalimi were 86.04%, 100%, and 20% for the conventional, extended and the control groups, respectively;indicating a higher bc rate (p

Efficacy and pharmacokinetics of bacteriophage therapy in treatment of subclinical Staphylococcus aureus mastitis in lactating dairy cattle.

Bovine mastitis is an inflammation of the udder caused by microbial infection. Mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus is a major concern to the dairy industry due to its resistance to antibiotic treatment and its propensity to recur chronically. Growing concerns surrounding antibiotic resistance have spurred research into alternative treatment methods. The ability of lytic S. aureus bacteriop...

Study of the relationship between oxidative stress and subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle

Subclinical mastitis is considered as one of the most prevalent diseases in dairy cows, causing drasticloss in the dairy industry. Oxidative stress, induced by reactive oxygen species (ROS), is believed to be aprimary factor in various cattle diseases including mastitis, but there are few studies regarding the role ofROS in subclinical mastitis. This study was undertaken to i) study the changes...

Efficacy of extended pirlimycin therapy for treatment of experimentally induced Streptococcus uberis intramammary infections in lactating dairy cattle.

Streptococcus uberis is an important cause of mastitis in dairy cows throughout the world, particularly during the dry period, around the time of calving, and during early lactation. Strategies for controlling S. uberis mastitis have not received adequate research attention and are therefore poorly defined and inadequate. Objectives of the present study were to evaluate the efficacy of extended...

Clinical and subclinical mastitis in dairy cattle in Kampala, Uganda

Dairy farming in Uganda provides a source of food, employment and income. Previous studies have revealed high frequencies of bovine mastitis, a costly disease for the dairy farmer. The aims of this study were to investigate the bacteriological panorama in milk from udder quarters with clinical (CM) and subclinical mastitis (SCM) and to determine the antimicrobial susceptibility in staphylococca...

Relationship between in vitroantimicrobial sensitivity of bovine subclinical mastitis isolates and treatment outcome in lactating dairy cows

The objective of the present study was to determine whether there was an association between the in vitroantimicrobial sensitivity test results of subclinical mastitis pathogensand bacteriological cure following intramammary treatment using a combination of nafcillin, penicillin, and streptomycin (NPS). Eighty-six intramammary pathogens from 43 cows were examined inthis study. Most intramammary...
